Oxygen Content Fusion 9.0 delivers a major upgrade to collaborative DITA content management, review, and publishing workflows. The Content Fusion Projects view lets you manage your DITA content with built-in support for Git-based version control, authoring, review workflows, and publishing.

Control Whether Project Files are Included as Context in a New Review Task

When creating a review task from the project's workspace, a new Include all project files as context option is available to control the set of files to be included in the task's context. When the option is enabled, project files are included to provide context for the reviewers and to avoid missing images or broken links. If disabled, only the selected files are included, allowing you to share specific files.

Multi-Branch Publishing Pipelines

You can now run deliverables from any branch defined in the project, allowing you to manage and publish multiple versions of your content.

View Referenced Markdown Content in Expanded DITA Maps

Content from referenced Markdown files is now displayed when you expand all topics in a DITA map using the View Topic Content action. The Markdown content is automatically converted to DITA and displayed as it will appear in your published output, so you can review all your content together. In Edit Topic Content mode, the Markdown document is read-only.

Copy Visual Editor Content as Markdown

You can now use the Copy as Markdown option in the visual editor's contextual menu to copy selected content as Markdown. When you paste it into another application (for example, in the prompts given to an AI Agent), formatting such as headings, styling, code blocks, tables, and lists is preserved in Markdown format.

When editing DITA 2.0 documents, you see video and audio controls (<video>, <audio> elements) rendered directly in the visual editor, so you can easily review embedded media content.

You can now search for values that appear in attributes using the Find/Replace side view. After running a search, you can filter the results to show only matches found in attribute values, only in content, or both, helping you quickly locate and update the information you need.

It streamlines content creation and enhances productivity with the ability to use numerous built-in AI actions or to ask the AI for help with content editing. Attachments that you add to your conversation to provide additional context are now presented above the chat input area, ensuring that they do not clutter your instructions. You can still reference specific attachments inline within your instructions by using the @ symbol followed by the file name.

Invoke AI Actions with Keyboard Shortcut

You can quickly invoke AI actions by using the / symbol in an empty chat, then start typing the name of the action. This displays a pop-up menu with a list of available actions that match the text you entered.

When using agentic chat to make changes to topics, small changes (e.g. attribute values, spelling corrections) can be made by the AI engine using the newly available edit_document tool that performs exact string replacements in a specified file.

Easier Access to Tool Call Details

You can now troubleshoot tool calls easier by viewing detailed information about each tool call directly in the Chat view. Simply hover over the tool name to see a summary, or click it to open a dialog box where you can review, copy tool call details, and import or export chats for sharing purposes.

Deactivate and Reactivate User Accounts

The new Expand Draft AI action enhances a draft of a DITA XML topic by refining the content, adding consistent markup, and generating documentation based on referenced images using Vision support. The AI searches for similar content in topics gathered from related links or through Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). This action is available for DITA XML documents.

The Short Description AI action (in the Content Generation section) creates a short description based on a summary of the selected text (or the entire document if there is no selection). You can configure the style and the approximate number of sentences to be generated.

The AI will then proceed to add comments in the content regarding logical consistency problems, grammar or spelling mistakes, or readability and comprehension issues.

Custom AI Actions and Tool Functions

Integrators or other advanced users can create custom actions that provide an initial prompt for the AI engine and a variety of functions that can be used by the custom actions. A Java API is available to implement custom functions that enable the AI engine, for example, to dynamically invoke external processing and use the results in generating its response.

Content Security Policy Enabled by Default for the Editor

The Content Security Policy (CSP) is now enabled by default for the embedded editor used in Oxygen Content Fusion. The Content Security Policy provides a standard HTTP header that allows website owners to declare approved sources of content that browsers should be allowed to load and execute on that page. Note that this might break some functionality added by custom plugins or frameworks (for example, if it loads external scripts). Also, this policy might block videos or other media objects from loading.

Version 7.1 of Oxygen Content Fusion builds on the projects concept introduced in the previous version by enhancing its functionality and offering even more capabilities.

This release provides various new ways to manage files and folders in the workspace, new side views were added to offer search functionality as well as validation for DITA XML projects, and you now have the possibility of comparing the differences between XML files in source mode, while the diff and merge support now also works for Markdown and other text files. Additionally, various improvements were implemented to continue to streamline the process of working with review tasks and to continue to enhance the authoring experience.

Rename, Move, and Copy Files or Folders with Automatic Reference Updates

Now, you can easily rename any workspace file or folder by using the Enter key on the selected resource or by using the Rename action found in the contextual menu. One or more workspace files can be easily moved or copied by using the Cut, Copy, and Paste actions that are now found in the contextual menu in the workspace file tree. You can also move files using drag and drop.

It is important to note that when working with DITA XML projects, the files or folders that are renamed or moved have their references (links, content references, image references) automatically updated, saving you time since you do not need to update the references manually and preventing validation issues. The references to the modified files (and from these files to other files) are automatically updated so that the overall project remains valid without any broken links.

Oxygen Content Fusion version 7.0 enhances the project support by introducing a personal authoring workspace where you can make changes across multiple files and once you are happy with the results, you can commit them directly to the repository to share them with your team. The dedicated Changes side-view enables you to preview and adjust changes before committing. An XML-aware conflict resolution tool helps you pull changes from the repository, detects conflicts, suggests automated solutions, and also allows merging content manually for more complex scenarios. Along with the powerful editing features for XML documents, the built-in Web Author allows you to edit Markdown files inside the authoring workspace providing syntax preview and toolbar actions to insert common structures.

The workspace feature includes a Publications side-view for easy browsing of a publication's DITA map. Users can open the map in a specialized DITA map editor to modify the structure using toolbar or contextual menu actions. The intuitive interface supports drag and drop, copy/paste, and various other actions for organizing topics. The editor also supports advanced DITA features such as profiling attributes, key definitions, and map references.

Continuous Deployment for the output is now possible as version 7.0 adds support for publishing connectors to enable uploading output to various platforms such as Amazon S3, Netlify, or servers with SFTP protocol. The output can be configured to include an "Edit Online" link in each topic that sends authors to their personal workspace where they can make changes to the source of that topic. When used in conjunction with automated builds, these changes will be live as soon as the build finishes.

What's New in Oxygen Content Fusion 6.2

April 9, 2024

Oxygen Content Fusion version 6.2 continues to streamline and refine the process of working with review tasks and implements various user requests for additional features and productivity enhancements.

One big focus for this release was to redesign parts of the interface to prioritize productivity (for example, navigation controls are now more accessible) and to provide access to more information to users within the most commonly used pages, pop-up windows, and other components. The list of review tasks can now be filtered to easily find a particular task and task management actions are now available directly from the task list. Users also now have access to an action in the Task Activity stream to see what changes were made to a particular file.

Content Fusion's visual editor was updated to integrate the latest changes implemented in Oxygen XML Web Author 26.1.0. Some of the interesting new features added for the visual editor include the ability for DITA users to easily switch profiling conditions and choose whether to hide the excluded content or show it as grayed out, and the Outline pane also now distinguishes nodes filtered by a DITAVAL file. The Unicode support was improved to better support surrogate characters (e.g. emoji characters) and the text mode is now available as read-only mode for concurrent editing sessions. When Markdown content is pasted within DITA, DocBook, TEI, or XHTML documents, it is automatically converted to the target vocabulary by the smart paste functionality. Additionally, the Split action now automatically inserts required first child elements.

If users develop customizations for the Web Author visual editor, the new CSS Inspector lets them see the styles of the selected element, the process of uploading a framework now includes validation to keep customized frameworks error-free, a new URL parameter can control whether content excluded by a DITAVAL filter is shown as grayed out or hidden, and a new API is available to add a toolbar in a side view.

Oxygen Content Fusion version 6.1 continues to streamline and refine the process of working with review tasks and implements various user requests for additional features and security enhancements.

Improvements to the review task process include the ability to set a due date for review tasks, task owners have new options to limit the type of editing that reviewers can do on a task, request a re-review after the review has been finalized, and the review status for each reviewer on a task can now be seen from the various pages within a task. Tasks can be marked as integrated to hide them from the default view, reviewers have now the ability to create new files or upload files to a task, and various interface enhancements were implemented to streamline the overall workflow and offer more in-place information. The main security enhancement provides the ability to configure Content Fusion to use an OpenID Connect provider for SSO authentication.

When sharing a task with reviewers, you can control if they have full edit access, or more limited access to add comments and suggest changes, or to only allow the reviewers to add comments. The new Comment only option that is available in the Reviewers edit mode section of the Task Settings page allows task owners to limit the reviewers to only have the ability to add comments on content (without changing it), ensuring that the document content is always seen in its original form by all reviewers.

Option to Request Re-review

Task owners now have the option to request re-review of the task from all the reviewers. They can request a new review of the task when they re-open the task or by using the Request re-review button that appears in the pop-up window when clicking the Finalized drop-down widget that is displayed under the task name when the task is in the In Review state. This resets the status of the review from Finalized to In Progress for all reviewers and they will also be notified via email that there is a request to review the task again. When a review restarts, the reviewers will be able to see what files changed since they last finalized their review.

Better Control of the Finalized Review Status

When a user marks a review task as Finalized, it remains in that review state even when other collaborators make changes to documents within the task. The Finalized state will change to In progress for that particular user only if they make changes to the task documents, or if a task owner either re-opens the task or requests a re-review of the task.

The status information of a review task is presented under the task name. This shows the number of reviewers assigned and how many total reviewers have finalized their review. If the review is in progress, it presents a drop-down that opens a pop-up window where you can see the list of all the reviewers and their finalized review status, as well as some actions that make sense in the particular context (for example, an action to request a re-review).

Oxygen Content Fusion 6.0 introduces a lot of interesting and substantial improvements for the online collaboration platform designed to improve the DITA documentation review and publishing processes.

One of the most interesting new features added in this version is the new Projects feature, which allows you to manage a DITA project hosted in a Git repository while maintaining full compatibility with existing workflows and tools. Authors can create review tasks inside a project and reviewers' feedback is tracked on a dedicated branch in the Git repository. New publishing features help authors build WebHelp and PDF outputs and the Oxygen Styles Basket has been integrated to make it very easy to customize the output using CSS styling. Review task owners can now close a review task to prevent others from making changes while integrating the reviewers' feedback. Numerous enhancements were also made to the Content Fusion user interface to make navigation easier and workflows more efficient. Bug fixes and security enhancements were also implemented, and various internal components were updated.

DITA project configuration changes and merged review tasks are automatically synchronized between Content Fusion and your Git repository. This means that you can still use the Git repository from any client application or Continuous Integration job.

A Content Fusion project has a default branch in the Content Fusion repository that mirrors the corresponding Git branch from the upstream remote repository. Version 5.0 of Oxygen Content Fusion is the latest release for the innovative collaboration platform that is designed to improve any documentation review process.

Some of the most interesting new features added in this version include a new Search side-view that enables searches throughout all files in a task, various user interface improvements, the ability to mention other collaborators in comments, actions in Oxygen XML Editor/Author to open a task's files or the context map specified for a task, and other enhancements designed to improve the user experience.

A Find/Replace side-view was added to the visual editor (on the right side pane). It makes it easier to see both the search UI and the document with results highlighted. Moreover, it makes it possible to see all search results at a glance without having to scroll through the document.

Mentions Supported Inside Comments

You can now mention (@user) other collaborators in review comments and the collaborators will see those comments highlighted in the Content Fusion browser interface.

Review Tasks Created in the Browser Have Change Tracking Disabled by Default

By default, when you create a review task using the Content Fusion interface in a browser, the change tracking feature is disabled. This helps Subject Matter Experts create draft content without being distracted by the change tracking mechanism.

A new option was added in the Preferences dialog box for controlling the colors of tracked changes. You can choose to have insertions shown in green while deletions are shown in red for all authors, or you can choose to show a different color for each author.

EXF Files Now Supported When Uploading Frameworks

Frameworks that are developed using framework extension files (with the .exf extension) can now be uploaded from the Administration page and the Web Author-based visual editor will compile them on the fly.

Edit Context DITA Map for a Review Task

The Content Fusion Task Manager view now has an action (Open context DITA map) in the contextual menu to open the DITA map that is specified as the context map for the task. This makes it easier for technical writers to make changes in the task's files directly from the XML editor or to apply a transformation scenario on the map.

AWS and VMware Installation Kits Deprecated

To make upgrades and security updates easier, the AWS and VMware installation kits have been deprecated and are scheduled for removal. If your are using one of these platforms, you can start a Virtual Machine that runs one of the supported Linux distributions and use our Linux installer.

Version 4.1 of Oxygen Content Fusion is the latest maintenance release for the innovative collaboration platform that is designed to improve any documentation review process. The main focus for this release was to improve the very popular Concurrent Editing feature that was introduced in the most recent major release and we are very happy to announce that the feature in no longer in the BETA stage. Numerous bug fixes and security improvements were also implemented for this release.

Floating Toolbar Provides Quicker Access to Common Editing Actions

You can now quickly invoke context-specific common actions in the visual editor. They are available in a floating toolbar that pops up when you select content. For example, if you select content inside a paragraph element, the floating toolbar includes common styling actions such as Bold, Italic, Underline, Subscript, Superscript, and others. It helps to increase your productivity by giving you easier access to the most common editing and styling actions.

Copy Content and Paste as HTML

You can now copy content from documents in the visual editor and paste it into an external application (such as a Word document or email) and the HTML structure is preserved.

Ctrl+Click to Open Links

It is now easier to open links when editing documents in the visual editor, simply by using the Ctrl+Click shortcut. It opens the target of the link in a new browser tab.

Outline Pane Moved to the Right Side of the UI

The Outline pane, which displays a general tag overview of the currently open document, was moved to the right side of the interface along with the other useful side panes. This leaves more room for the activity stream on the left side of the interface.

It is possible to create a task directly in the Content Fusion browser interface. This means that the task creation process is available to anyone who has access to the browser interface, even if they do not have access to Oxygen XML Editor/Author.

If you are the owner of a task (any task that you created or were assigned as an owner), you now have the ability to create a new file from a list of templates and the newly created file will automatically be added to the current task. Filter Content in Uploaded Files Based on a DITAVAL File

A DITAVAL file can now be attached to a task so that the content in the uploaded DITA topics is filtered based upon the conditional profiling attribute values defined in the DITAVAL file. If a condition set is selected in the DITA Maps Manager, the corresponding DITAVAL file will automatically be selected in the task.

For tasks that contain any file types other than DITA (for example, DocBook files), an option is now available to detect any files referenced within the attached documents and automatically upload those referenced files in the task. The avatars for all of the users who are currently accessing a particular file are shown in the left panel of the visual editor as well as in the Task Details page. You can hover over an avatar to see the names of the users and you can see which user is currently editing the file because there is a red border around that avatar.

Configure Authentication to Accept Only LDAP Accounts

In previous versions, an admin could enable LDAP Authentication and users could log in using their LDAP credentials or sign up using their email address. Now, the Use LDAP Authentication option only allows LDAP credentials. However, there is now a new option (Allow both LDAP accounts and standard email accounts) so that users can still log in using either type.

The release of Version 1.1 of Oxygen Content Fusion adds various new features and improvements to the innovative collaboration tool for any XML documentation review process. Oxygen Content Fusion has a connector add-on that comes bundled with Oxygen XML Author and Oxygen XML Editor. To fully take advantage of all of the benefits and features, your organization will need an Oxygen Content Fusion Enterprise Server. For more information, see the Content Fusion website.

Some highlights of the new features and improvements in version 1.1 include the ability to restore Content Fusion data from backup, the possibility of upgrading your version of Content Fusion Enterprise, a new feature that allows you to add owners to an existing task, options for customizing term lists for the spell checker or AutoCorrect feature, and much more.

The built-in web-based editor now benefits from an improved design, the Review panel now has a better filtering mechanism and comment threads are rendered so that it is easier to identify groups of comments. Also, when a DITA map is open, you have the ability to choose from several new display modes, including a mode to display the map with all the topic content expanded.

You can create personalized term lists that are used to store specialized terms (learned words) or control forbidden words in the spell checker.
