What's New in Oxygen XML Chemistry 19.1

September 29, 2017

Oxygen PDF Chemistry now comes bundled with the standard distributions of Oxygen and allows you to obtain PDF output from HTML or XML documents simply by styling them with CSS. It provides a simple tool that allows you to leverage your CSS knowledge to create printable deliverables and is particularly useful for generating technical documentation. Version 19.1 includes a variety of improvements that make styling PDF output even more simple, efficient, and powerful.

Oxygen PDF Chemistry

Chemistry adheres to government accessibility requirements (508 compliance), helping you to make your PDF output accessible for those who are blind or visually impaired.

PDF Bookmarks and Metadata

You can use PDF bookmarks to provide an additional way of navigating through the published output, similar to a table of contents. You can also use metadata to provide additional information about a certain document, such as its title, author, organization, creation date, format, or copyright.

Automatic Table Layout

Chemistry support the auto value for the table-layout property. This means that the allocation of column widths is done automatically based on the content size.

Automatic Baseline Alignment

The text content from table cells is aligned vertically so that it's aligned on the same baseline. The same is true for list item content and labels.

Support for :first-letter

Chemistry support the :first-letter pseudo element. It allows you to format the first letter of a paragraph and can be attached to all elements.

Support for :marker Pseudo Classes

Chemistry support the :marker pseudo selector. It is a CSS pseudo element that allows you to associate styles with the list marker. For example, you can use this type of selector to implement custom list numbering.

Chemistry User Guide

An Oxygen PDF Chemistry User Guide is now available online and it provides extensive details about how to use Chemistry to style your PDF output simply by using CSS without having to work with xsl:fo customizations.
