0:00:04Oxygen XML Editor 28 adds some useful enhancements
for the file and directory comparison tools. This
0:00:10video demonstrates some of the new features. To
demonstrate these new features, we have a sample
0:00:17document that contains some comments. We'll show
you a new option for comparing comments later,
0:00:23but first we'll compare two sample folders to
show you some new advanced filtering options.
0:00:29We'll click the show only modifications
button to narrow the results. Next,
0:00:34notice that there's a new include folders filter.
We'll place the cursor in that field and we'll use
0:00:41the control shift E keyboard shortcut to open a
popup where you can specify folders to include
0:00:47in the results. In our case, we want to filter
the results to only include the topic subfolder.
0:00:54Now we'll run the comparison and we get filtered
results as expected. Now we'll go back to specify
0:01:02a new filter to restrict it even further. This
time we'll use a wild card to specify a directory
0:01:07that's inside the topic subfolder that starts
with specific text. And we'll run the comparison
0:01:14again. Now we'll click on the icon in the middle
column between two versions of a file to run a
0:01:21file comparison. and we'll go to preferences,
then to appearance to show that there's a new
0:01:29option to show comment callouts. After enabling
the option, we'll scroll to a change that has a
0:01:37comment so that you can see that the comment call
out is now displayed in both sides. Notice that
0:01:43the comment in the right side has a reply that
isn't in the left side. We can rightclick the
0:01:48call out to access contextual actions. And we'll
choose to copy the changes within the selection
0:01:54from right to left. The last thing we want to
show is that the HTML report now includes a full
0:02:01summary of comparison options. So, we'll click the
save results as HTML button. We'll give it a name
0:02:09and click save. And we'll open the resulting
HTML file in a browser. Notice that there is
0:02:16now an expandable comparison option section and it
contains meta information about how the comparison
0:02:22was performed. Notice that the include folders
filter row shows the folder filtering pattern
0:02:28we used earlier. The combination of these
features gives you more precise control over
0:02:33comparison results and additional information
makes it easier to understand the results.
