Licensing: Publish WebHelp from oXygen
Post by Frank Ralf »
Hi,
I know that publishing WebHelp output from the command line requires a separate license. So do I understand correctly that I can generate WebHelp output from within oXygen and deliver this output to a customer without any additional license?
Best regards,
Frank

Hi Frank,
Thank you for contacting us.
The WebHelp license is a process-based license, so, as long as you would have one deployment of the WebHelp license which will only be used in a single external process, then, yes you need a single WebHelp license.
You can find more detailed clarifications in the oXygen WebHelp EULA, at:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/eula_webhelp.html
Also, please read the Oxygen XML WebHelp FAQ for additional information.
Let us know whenever you need any other information.

Hi Cosmin,
Thanks for your reply. I read the additional documents you mentioned but one thing is still not completly clear for me:

Kind regards,
Frank

https://www.oxygenxml.com/sales_faq.html#xmlwebhelp states the following:
We only have licenses for stand-alone oXygen but no dedicated license for server-based WebHelp generation. Does the above statement is also valid for generated WebHelp pages generated with stand-alone oXygen? The WebHelp EULA places no restrictions on the generated WebHelp pages. Therefore, you may publish them wherever you want and you may include them in a third-party product without restrictions.
Kind regards,
Frank

Hello,
Yes, the above statement is also valid for generated WebHelp output using a stand-alone <oXygen/> license.
Let us know if you need further assistance.

Hi,
I have an additional question:
Is the footer text "Generated by <oXygen/> XML WebHelp" required when our customer publishes their customized WebHelp on their website? Or can they change the text?
Best regards,
Frank

Hi,
If the customer is using a trial version of oXygen XML the 'Generated by <oXygen/> XML WebHelp' text cannot be removed (is required).
In case they own a permanent oXygen XML license, the footer text can be customized.
Regards,
Ionela
