Hello,
has someone have experiencies with running <oXygen/> 9.3 on MS Windows Vista 64 bit and Sun Java 1.6.x 64 bit? Is <oXygen/> supported and recommended on such environment?
Thank You for answer in advance, Stepan

Hello,
If you start Oxygen with the oxygen.bat script from the Oxygen install folder Oxygen runs with the default Java virtual machine installed on your computer. It does not matter if that is a 32 bits or 64 bits Java virtual machine, Oxygen will run without problems.
The launcher associated with the desktop icon and the shortcut from the Start menu does not work with a 64 bit Java virtual machine because it is a 32 bit Windows executable. We will consider providing also a 64 bit launcher / install kit.
On the Download page only a Windows kit that includes a JVM is available and the included JVM is on 32 bits. When you install this kit and run Oxygen it will use the included JVM and will run without problems. There is no visible difference and there is no performance difference between Oxygen running with a 32 bit JVM and running with a 64 bit JVM. You can just use the Windows kit downloaded from the Download page without worrying about the differences between a 32 bit JVM and a 64 bit one.
Regards,
Sorin

Re: oXygen on MS Windows Vista 64 bit and Sun Java 1.6.x 64 bit?
Well, the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit application should be among others simple - maximum size of allocated memory per application. Am I right? That is why I am going to switch to Vista 64 bit. I have huge XML dump from database, which I need process with SaxonB 9.0.0.1 XSLT 2.0 template. And on my 2 GB RAM comp I received OutOfMemory error easily and often with XML over 1,8 GB. Up to 1,5 GB XML file it is quite fast XSLT processing. Yes, I can and I do XSLT processing on command line with Saxon, but I also want to view and edit larger files in oXygen too. Let say oXygen on 8 GB RAM comp with quad core Intel and Vista 64 bit and Java 64 bit should be able to open and edit let say 2 - 3 GB XML file, should not it? But I am familiar with BAT starters and I do not need to use EXE starters. Stepan

You cannot edit so very large files yet with acceptable performance in Oxygen. However you can view these very large files with the Large File Viewer opened from menu Tools -> Large File Viewer. We plan to implement an indexing scheme in a future version of Oxygen that allows editing very large files without the current performance problems.tatra603 wrote:Let say oXygen on 8 GB RAM comp with quad core Intel and Vista 64 bit and Java 64 bit should be able to open and edit let say 2 - 3 GB XML file, should not it?
