References taking too long to resolve
Post by rogerhadley »
Our maps have several glossref map referenced. A glossref map can have over 100 glossrefs and keyrefs to define terms, icons, etc. So when I open a map, it takes over 5 minutes to resolve all the references.
Is there a way I can configure the default behavior to NOT resolve references when I open a map or topic?
We use Xdocs CMS with Oxygen Author 14.

Re: References taking too long to resolve
Hello,
Are you opening the maps into the DITA Maps Manager or are you opening them in the main editor ?
In case you are opening them in the main editor, could you please go into oXygen menu to Options > Preferences > Editor > Edit modes > Author and uncheck the "Display referred content" option ?
See if that solves anything and if the maps open faster.
Regards,
Costin

My main workflow is to open maps in DITA Maps Manager.
Unchecking the "Display referred content" option does make the map open without resolving references. Thanks.
However, is there a way to then resolve references on demand? XMetaL does this, so I am hoping there is a way to do this in Oxygen. In other words, I want the default behavior for both maps and topics to be to NOT resolve references on file open, but then I want to have a way to resolve references on a map or topic after if it is open if I so choose.

Re: References taking too long to resolve
Hello Roger,
I'm afraid in the current version (v14.0) it's not possible to resolve them by demand. However the performance of Oxygen v14.1 has been significantly improved with regard to resolving the references, so, at least in theory, it should be possible to leave them enabled in the new version and have it work within a reasonable time frame.
Let me know if you'd like to give a try to Oxygen v14.1 and I'll give you access to a beta build.
Regards,
Adrian

Hi,
A colleague has sent you the download details for the v14.1 beta (private email).
Did you get the chance to try it?
Did the performance improve with this new version?
Regards,
Adrian
