Word to dita xml
Post by Pandounours »
Hello,
I'm new to the DITA format and I would like to know if someone can tell me or show me a conversion example from a word document to DITA.
I'm struggling to understand for example to know what type of tags I need to use corresponding to my word document.
Also, I don't know how to structure the ditamap according to the document and the fact that I want two versions of my word document (language difference and some part of the document is changing according to the language).
Did I need to make two projects ? How I can make this version control, and language control ? I saw something about metadata for language but I don't know how to use it.
An example of a word document converted to dita would help me a lot if someone can do that.
Thank you all for your attention.

Hi,
Because you are new to DITA, I recommend you to read the "Learning" section from our blog: https://blog.oxygenxml.com/topics/learnDita.html. There are some links to webinars like "Getting Started with Oxygen and DITA" that can help you.
About the Word conversion, we have an add-on named "Batch Documents Converter" that can be installed in Oxygen for not doing it manually. You have more information about this and about installation procedure in the readme section from this page: https://github.com/oxygenxml/oxygen-resources-converter
You can also watch the part of this presentation where is included the Batch Documents Converter add-on: https://youtu.be/bmM_thR6l-Q?t=1740

Hi,
Can you give us more details about what you mean by "change images"? Do you mean rename the image file names and have the references to the images automatically update? Or change the contents of the images?
Regards,
Radu

I want to change the image content (ex : it was an image of a blue flower now I want that all blue flowers turn to pink flowers image).
But both are interesting if you have solution for both.

Hi,
We do not have ourselves any utility to edit or to batch edit images. So you will need to use third party solutions for this.
As for support to rename image file names or to move images to another folder and have the references to them automatically updated, we have this in Oxygen:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... files.html

Super thank you very much !
Last questions, do someone know where I an ask for help. Like I would need someone to take a look with what I have done and answer some questions.
Maybe there is a special topic but I don't see which one...

Hi,
If you have specific and clear questions we can try to answer them and guide you along. If you want somebody to understand your exact company's situation, you can either hire a consulting partner:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/partners.html ... ngpartners
or fill our consulting form and pay for a few hours of consulting:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/consultancy.html

Radu
