Oxygen 14.x and 15 at the same time
Post by ArtGoddess »
Hello,
As suggested in this thread: http://www.oxygenxml.com/forum/topic9791.html
I am going to test 15 beta.
Is it free for all users without time limit?
Can we run at the same time, or at least have installed at the same time both versions? I see the folder has exactly the same name...
If we have purchased a license of Oxygen 14, can we upgrade to 15 at no cost?
Thank you very much.

Hello,
The upgrade policy will be applied. If you purchased a version 14 license less than a month before the release of version 15 then you will get automatically a free upgrade to version 15. If you purchased the Maintenance Pack option (SMP) together with your license for version 14 then this option will cover all releases for one year which means it will cover all 15.x versions (that is: you will not pay for the upgrade to version 15). Otherwise you will have to pay for the upgrade to version 15.
If you don't have the SMP option, so your version 14 license key does not work with the version 15 beta kit and you want a trial license key for version 15 just let me know and I will send you by email a trial license key for version 15 which is valid for one month.
Regards,
Sorin

So, the normal procedure should be to update from 14.x to 15 and not having both versions at the same time, right?
But version 15 is now a beta, it is considered stable enough to work with it? Can we upgrade safely right now?
Also, can we use the program in two computers at the same time? Thank you!

No, sorry for not being clear. When you run the installer for a new version you have a choice between uninstalling the previous version version and keeping the previous version side by side with the new version (if you install the new version in a different directory). The two versions can work fine at the same time, the user options are stored in different files, there is no conflict between two different versions installed and running on the same machine in the same user account.ArtGoddess wrote:So, the normal procedure should be to update from 14.x to 15 and not having both versions at the same time, right?
The Oxygen license is user based, not machine based. The same user can install and use the Oxygen application on any number of machines, as long as only that user will use it with his own license. Two different users will need two different licenses (unless they share the same floating license), even if they use the Oxygen application on the same computer.ArtGoddess wrote:Also, can we use the program in two computers at the same time? So then, same company, same office, two different computers, two employees (one in Linux and another in Mac). Can we use the same license? Just to clarify. Thank you.sorin wrote:The Oxygen license is user based, not machine based. No. Each human user (in your case each employee that will run the Oxygen application) needs his own separate Oxygen license. It does not matter on what platform a user will run the Oxygen application, each individual user/person will need an individual license (called Named User license in the Oxygen EULA). So two employees will need two Oxygen licenses.ArtGoddess wrote:So then, same company, same office, two different computers, two employees (one in Linux and another in Mac). Re: Oxygen 14.x and 15 at the same time
When I unzipped v15, the result was a folder and not the install to which you refer above.
I want to replace v14.
Do I simply delete the v14 folder from my Mac's application folder and then move the unzipped v15 folder to the same parent folder (i.e., maintain the original location)?
Thanks,
R

Hi Robin,
The wizard installer is available only on Windows and Linux. On Mac it is only a zip archive and you get the Oxygen install directory by unzipping the archive. You can delete the directory with Oxygen 14 if you want but you don't have to, because more than one Oxygen version can co-exist on the same machine and can be started alternatively. It is up to you where you place the Oxygen install directory for any version of Oxygen, as the application can be started from any location. One option is to move it in the same parent directory as the previous Oxygen versions.
