Document Type Association shortcut Bug
Post by Nicol Bolas »
I'm having a problem making additions to this work correctly.
I duplicated the DocBook 5 version, so that I could modify it. I added a new Action to the list of actions in Author mode, and I gave it a shortcut key of "Ctrl+Shift+G". I checked to see that this shortcut was not in use either elsewhere in the Doc Type Association or in the main program's list of shortcuts.
However, it never seems to work. I can change menus to put the item in the menu and execute it from there. That works. The menu says that the shortcut is that key combination. But it never seems to work as a shortcut.
I can successfully change the shortcuts on the actions I didn't add (those that were there when I copied it). But I can't make shortcuts work on actions that I added myself.
Any ideas?

Dear Nicol Bolas
Thank you for contacting us.
The "Ctrl+Shift+G" shortcut is already used for the "Go to matching tag" action but this is not important because it should work nonetheless.
I do not know exactly if you are using the standalone or the eclipse version of Oxygen.
In the Eclipse version all you have to do is set the shortcut key for the action and it will be invoked when pressing the shortcut in Author mode.
In the standalone version in addition to setting a shortcut to the action you also have to add it to the Docbook 5 Menu bar (or the action will not get invoked).
Also make sure you are editing a Docbook 5 document when invoking it.
If this does not work for you you could send us a snapshot image of the Action edit dialog so that we can investigate the problem at the following email address: support at oxygenxml dot com.
Regards,
Radu

I'm using the standalone Oxygen. And putting the action in the menu bar fixed it.
Why is that necessary for the standalone Oxygen?

Dear Nicol,
Unfortunately the Java Virtual Machine Swing architecture that we use in the standalone version requires adding the action to the menu bar in order to invoke it..
We'll think about how this can be better suggested to the user.
Thank you.

Hello,
In the current development stream we have implemented a fix so that shortcut keys for actions will work without having to add the actions to the menu bar. This fix will be available in the next release.
Regards,
Adrian
