Extreme Lag When Using Anything With "Insert Topic Reference" Window

Hello, Oxygen v27.1 and v28 are now both experiencing tremendous lag when I am trying to navigate files with features like the Append Child "Insert Topic Reference" window. The file browser window in Oxygen will open, but when I browse the files, it lags 15- 30 seconds per click before navigating to the next level of search (or when clicking into folders etc.). Not only does it lag when something is clicked, it freezes the entire program and I am unable to do anything during this time. This has added a tremendous amount of time to my workflow...

I have experienced this with no other files open in the editor area in Oxygen, and have tried to re-install the software to no avail.

My files are saved locally on my laptop, so this isn't a connectivity issue.
I am using a Dell Precision 5690 with an NVIDIA RTX 2000, so I don't think this is a hardware performance issue. I do not experience this type of lag on any other program I'm using.
