Preserve output folder for generate XML

Post by linusk »

Every time I go to generate sample XML, the output folder is changed back to the default schema directory, and I have to change it back to the output folder I want.

Is it not possible to preserve the output folder I specify, as it does all the other generation parameters I specify?

I can export the settings and then re-import them each time, but why can it not preserve the output folder between generation efforts? Everything else (schema, root element, instances, prefix, etc.) is preserved.

Just to clarify, The output dir does seem to be preserved if I don't change the selected schema and root element.

Hello Linus,

Thanks for the feedback - your observation makes sense in some workflows.
Currently, the "Output folder" field is automatically initialized based on the parent directory of the selected schema.
This behavior is intentional, to make it easier to generate sample instances next to the corresponding schemas and to avoid accidental overwrites when switching between schemas from different locations.

I understand, however, that in your case it would be more convenient if Oxygen remembered the last used output folder, regardless of the selected schema.
I will log an improvement request based on your suggestion and evaluate it for a future release.

Best regards,
Teo
