Semi-WYSIWYG XML editing?

Post by Mats »

Hello,

Do you have any plans to implement XML editing with semi-WYSIWYG screen styling similar to XML Mind, Epic Editor, Morphon and the like? Preferably where you can switch on and switch off tags.

Best regards,

Hello,

WYSIWYG editing is planned for the long term. In the short term the next version of oXygen will provide a grid editor which allows to edit, expand and collapse the elements of the XML document without seeing the XML tags. You can see a preview here.

Hi there,

a WYSIWYG editor would be fantastic! This is what I searched for a long time... But your grid editor would be nice too... which version did you mean? 7.3 or the next major release?

Thanks.

WYSIWYM Editing Is Really Nice

Post by infinitesteps »

I use Arbortext Editor (formerly known as Epic). It works great for content creation. But it is very writer-oriented application. oXygen has a great XML toolset for those of us interest in the structure. If you added WYSIWYM editing to oXygen you would have a killer application. Arbortext Editor cost more than double oXygen, so keeping it at your current pricepoint would also be ideal :-)

I wanted to clarify that WYSIWYM (mean) is not WYSIWYG (get). WYSIWYG for XML is almost totally useless.

For those of you possibly implementing this feature I highly recommend that you get a copy of Epic Editor. You should borrow some of their UI. They have 9 of the top 10 software companies in the world using their products to make technical documentation. There would be a lot to learn from their interface.

I look forward ot the day when I can do WYSIWYM content generation in oXygen!

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback!
We will consider of course WYSIWYM support built on top of the support oXygen has for XML and different schema languages. I would say that this has moved from a long term objective into a closer area ;).

Any idea when WYSIWYG editing will be an oXygen feature? I am a long time user of oXygen, and love it, but I have a difficult time getting XML newbies past real XML. I am in pursuit of a WYSIWYG XML editor or plug-in to something... browser, oxygen, whatever.
