Facet-based search in WebHelp based on <topicmeta> and <topicsubject>
Post by Graham Hannington »
If you want to improve the standing of Oxygen WebHelp in a feature comparison matrix with other web publishing platforms, you might consider enhancing it with facet-based search, based on <topicmeta> and <topicsubject> DITA elements.

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback.
Unfortunately, in the current WebHelp implementation this is not possible. We already have this feature logged to our tracking tool and I have added your feedback to it.
Regards,
Ionela

Related suggestions:
- Introduce facet-based filters to the WebHelp "index terms" ("A-Z" index) page. For example, to show/hide index terms by facet.
- Introduce facet-based filters to the WebHelp TOC. For example, to show/hide (or, to avoid structural discontinuities, highlight/dim) TOC entries by facet.

Facets based on topic metadatas would be a great added value to WebHelp.
We have several customers who already asked us to get such feature.
Any update about this? is it in the roadmap?

Hi,
I'm sorry, but this feature is not scheduled for the short term roadmap.
But, I have added your vote and comments to it, in order to increase its priority.
Regards,
Ionela

Re: Facet-based search in WebHelp based on <topicmeta> and <topicsubject>
Hello,
I wanted to update this thread to announce that Oxygen WebHelp 26.0 now features faceted search functionality. This feature is powered by Oxygen Feedback 4.0, which can be configured as an external search engine for WebHelp.
To use this functionality, facets are defined using a DITA Subject Scheme Map, which enables the categorization of DITA topics into various controlled values and subject definitions. Once defined, these faceted values can be associated with specific DITA topics using a DITA Classification Map.
In practice, this means when users search within the WebHelp Responsive output, they can now narrow down their search results by selecting relevant facets. This update significantly improves the user's ability to find specific topics efficiently.
For a detailed guide on configuring faceted search in your WebHelp Responsive output, please refer to our user manual: How to Configure Faceted Search in WebHelp Output
Regards,
Alin
