Use PDF viewer different to system default under Windows

Post by DavidV »

Hi Oxygen Community,

I would like to know if there is the possibility to make Oxygen open an output PDF with a different program than the system default?

Reason is that my organization forces the use of Acrobat e.g. to open PDFs attached to emails, thus I cannot change the system default easily. But Acrobat has a file lock on PDFs which means I always have to close the document before generating a new version of it. E.g. with Summatry PDF you don't have that problem. But I did not find a way to tell Oxygen to open .pdf files not with the system default but some custom defined program.

Sincerely,
David

Hi David,
I've also experimented the Adobe Reader file locking and indeed it's annoying, especially that you may wait a couple of minutes for the transformation to finish only that in the last stage for the transformation to fail not being able to modify the PDF.
Looking at the settings we have on our side, in the Oxygen Preferences->Global page we have a "Default internet browser" setting but this is used mostly when Oxygen attempts to open HTML documents.
When opening PDF documents, Oxygen attempts to do that with the default application associated with the extension in the operating system. And we do not have a setting to control that I'm afraid.

Radu
