Pasting comments from PDF with dash or quotes causes Content Fusion to crash

Hello,
We have an issue where Content Fusion cannot digest some characters (dash and quotation marks, possibly more?) that are pasted from Adobe PDF comments into Content Fusion comments.
So, for example, if the following is included in a PDF comment:
CBS – ABC "primetime"
And I try to copy/paste that into a Comment in Content Fusion, the comment is lost and the following error appears:
"Automatic save failed.
Retry saving the document to prevent losing your current changes.
If retry fails, try one of the following actions to save your changes:Save as, Download."
Followed by:
"Concurrent editing session closed unexpectedly.
If you have unsaved changes, download the file.
To continue editing, try to reopen the file.
If this problem persists, contact your administrator."
It appears that Content Fusion cannot recognize these characters.
If you could investigate, that would be greatly appreciated.

And to be clear, using "Paste as plain text" option does not solve the issue.

We managed to reproduce the problem you reported, when the encoding of the edited files is ASCII ( <?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "ASCII"?>).
Can you please confirm if this is also your case?

Hi Miheala,
Upon investigation, this error does appear to be occurring only with encoding set to us-ascii <?xml version="1.0" encoding="us-ascii"?>, but not with files set to UTF-8: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>.
Please advise if you need more info.

Hi,

Thank you for confirmed that this happens only for files with ascii encoding.

We have already added an issue for this in our internal issue tracker and we will update this thread when the fix will be available.
Can you please tell us if you are forced to use the ascii encoding in the future or you can just update the files to use UTF-8 encoding? We need your answer to know how to prioritize solving this problem.

Hi Mihaela,

Apologies for delayed reply.
(FYI, it's not clear to me what settings I need to set to get a notification email when there's a reply to an issue).

At any rate, we are using UTF-8 for any new topics we create, so this will only affect some legacy content. Mildly annoying for some, but there is a workaround, so I would not put this at a high priority.

Hi,

From what I see you have to click on the Notifications icon from the left of the user name (see the right top corener of the page) and then click on the "Settings" link from the header of the list that appears. This must open the "Edit notification options" were you can select the reply notification options.

We already added a fix for the problem you reported and it will be available in the next release of Web Author. We will let you know when it will be available.

Since there was a new release of Content Fusion on May 26, we want to confirm that we still need to wait for an update to WebAuthor first before this issue is resolved. Is that correct? (Issue still happens in Content Fusion 5.0)

The fix will be available in the next release of Web Author (version 25). In Content Fusion the fix will be available after we integrate the editor version 25.
