Missing Feature: Open Web Page in Editor with Resolved Topics
Post by pdenchfield »
Oxygen XML allows you to open a map in the editor with resolved topics. See https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... hl_dgk_54b (Open Map in Editor with Resolved Topics)

What about opening a web page (from chunked topic) in the editor with resolved topics? You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hi,
I'm afraid I do not understand what you mean. Can you elaborate with a small example?
Regards,
Radu

Yes, thank you! For example, I want to view in the editor all the resolved child topics that will be used to generate https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Cont ... tarted.htm - the cloudshellgettingstarted.dita file with all resolved child topics.

Hi pdenchfield,
My writers have asked for a way to be able to run a transformation on just part of a map. For example, they want to be able to go into the DITA Maps Manager, select an individual chapter, and run a PDF or HTML5 transformation for just that chapter.
Does that sound like it would work for you?

Hi,
Both the case of opening a topicref with expanded topics and publishing it would be resolved if the particular chapter/topicref would be extracted as a separate submaps in your projects. After that you would be able to open that particular submap and either publish or open it with resolved topics.
Regards,
Radu

More than one writer on my team has asked for the ability to view in the editor the same content that will be published to an HTML page.
Our repository contains thousands of chunked topics not set up as individual maps per page. It is a non-starter to require reconfiguration of these topics.

Hi,
So you only want to open a certain topicref (along with descendant topicrefs) in the main editor with resolved topics, mostly for visualization purpose.
I added an internal improvement request based on your details:
EXM-50891 Open topicref in editor with resolved topics
If we manage to add this improvement in a future Oxygen version we'll update this forum thread.
Regards,
Radu

Hi Radu,
The request from my writers was to be able to run a transformation (e.g. PDF) on a selected part of the map (e.g. a set or range of chapters selected in the DITA Maps Manager). I am not sure how implementable their request is, and I am not sure how close the Resolved Topics feature would get them.
Fortunately, as they get more comfortable with Oxygen's robust Undo functionality and Git's Discard feature, they become more comfortable temporarily deleting parts of their map and publishing the remainder, then restoring the deleted content. So for us, the lack of their exact requested feature is not too big of a deal.
