Opening UTF-8 sets dirty flag?

Post by Gandalf »

When I open some files in Oxygen the dirty flag is set on immediately. Saving, closing and reopening the file reuslts in the dirty flag still being set. Without exhaustive tests it looks like it is happening with UTF-8 (no BOM) files and not with ASCII ones. I'm on MacOS X (PPC). Is this a known "feature" which will be fixed, or is something else happening? TIA.

Hi,

We cannot reproduce that. The modified falg should not be set if the file is not modified. Please make sure you have disabled the "Format and indent the document on open" option, see: Options->Preferences -- Editor -- Format -- XML -- Format and indent the document on open.
If you still have problems please send us a sample file and a description of the steps to take to reproduce the behavior.

Best Regards,
George

Thanks for that, never thought of looking at that - by chance my ASCII files where DTD's, UTF-8 XML... That option was off (see previous posts on my battles with whitespace :-()... However I recently added a tag to the "preserve space" list and it must have got accidently checked. If is off again now!

I'll go kick myself

Thanks :-)
