Merge Cells in Table

Post by gopinathselvamin »

Hi,

We have a use case to merge cells in a table in oxygen XML author-17.1, suppose assume a table of 4 rows and 5 columns and we want to merge all the cells in row-2 then currently we don't have any option for merging the cells. Just want to make sure whether my understanding about merge cells is correct and if it is so then whether this feature is planned for any future release.

Thanks,
Gopinath Selvam

Hi Gopinath,

If your DITA topic is opened in the Author visual editing mode, you could select the entire row's contents, then right click and use the Join contextual menu action.

My split and join are grayed out. I tried your recommendation in this post, but there is no "join" in the right-click menu. How do I fix this issue?

Hi Julie,

What version of Oxygen are you using?
Are you editing DITA XML content or another type of XML?
If you are editing DITA, do you have the problem to join cells in a DITA Cals table or in a DITA simple table? DITA <simpletable>s do not allow joining and splitting cells, you would need to use a DITA Cals table instead.
