Non dita to pdf
Post by mbergonzoni »
Hello,
Please I need your help in settings for non-DITA resources, such as PDF documents.
I’m working with sharepoint integration and I added a pdf file to the ditamap but when I transform the map to a PDF the non dita file does not show up.
I'm using the XML Editor 21.1, build 2019090904.
<topicref href="../TOPICS/sviluppo%20lamiere%20per%20frame.pdf" format="pdf"
navtitle="prova" locktitle="yes" scope="external"/>
The file is just ignored when I apply the transformation scenario with xsl-fo. Actually the file is ignored with other scenarios too.
Can you help out ?

Re: Non dita to pdf
Hi,
What exactly did you expect? Did you expect that the referenced PDF file will get expanded inside the generated PDF file?
Indeed this does not happen, the topicref should be interpreted as a link to another PDF file and I think this is correct according to the specification.
From what I remember in a DITA topic you can use the <image> element to refer to a PDF and have that expanded in the generated PDF output but if you want your used PDF to also contribute a table of contents to the general publication I do not know a solution for this.
Regards,
Radu

Hi Radu,
tanks for your reply.
I need to add one or more pdf attachment to the final generated PDF output. I just need all the pages of the attachment to be part of the generated file, in terms of page numbering. I mean, if the attachment has 10 pages I need the generated pdf output to consider this 10 pages in the page numbering.
As for the table of content I just need to reference the attachment title, not the internal part, so for that I'll be ok just adding a Navtitle.
I tried your reccomendation and I added a < image> element but I found the attached pdf is rendered only with the first page.
Any other suggestion ?
Thanks,

Re: Non dita to pdf
Hi,
I do not have any idea about how to do this, there is a DITA Users List dita-users@groups.io on which you can try to register and ask around. Or you could try some kind of post processing step with another tool to insert that external PDF.

Radu
