Excel Pasting
If I have data in Excel that looks like this:
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
Column A | Column B | | Column D
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
When I paste it into Oxygen 15.2, it comes out as
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
Column A | Column B | Column D
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
In other words, the information in Column D is incorrectly placed in the tag for Column C. I've also found that things will "migrate" up to fill empty cells in the rows above.
I'm sure there are some scenarios where this is appropriate, but I'm not finding this behavior as useful as just keeping things in their original columns/rows. This is probably just a setting I've missed, but I haven't been able to find it. Can you direct me to how to change this?
Thanks!

Re: Excel Pasting
I can't figure out how to go back and edit my original post, but once I posted the message, I saw that your editor "compressed" the formatting so that the issue wasn't clear. The source information looked like this:
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
Column A | Column B | ________ | Column D
Column A | Column B | Column C | Column D
Note that the column filled with underscores ought to be empty, but they are there so the editor doesn't compress that cell out of existence.

Re: Excel Pasting
Hello,
Could you please specify in what type of document are you pasting the Excel content (generic XML file, DITA, DocBook)?
Also, are you visualizing the pasted Excel content in oXygen Grid or Author mode?
Regards,
Ionela

Re: Excel Pasting
Hi,
The pasted content is processed according to the XML file Document type, so could you please specify the Document type you currently using from Windows > Show view > Properties?
Also, are you pasting the Excel content in Text, Grid or Author mode (Document > Edit mode)?

Ionela

Re: Excel Pasting
Hi,
We have identified and reproduced this issue in oXygen Grid mode. I've logged the problem to our issue tracking tool to be resolved in a future version of oXygen. We'll update the thread when this is resolved.

Re: Excel Pasting
I am having the same issue. Looks like this was identified as an issue to be addressed in a later release over 4 years ago. Am currently on an evaluation copy but not being able to do this in grid mode is a deal breaker. Need this functionality. Please advise. Thanks.

Re: Excel Pasting
For clarity to my above post, as with the original poster, it's an XML document in grid mode and there is a one to one relationship between number of rows in excel file and records in XML file. I am attempting to copy data from excel as follows:
Row 1: Blank cell
Row 2: Blank cell
Row 3: Blank cell
Row 4: Text Data
Row 5: Text Data
Row 6: Blank cell
Row 7: Text Data
Row 8: Text Data
When I paste over existing data in Editor Grid mode, I get:
Row 1: Text Data
Row 2: Text Data
Row 3: Text Data
Row 4: Text Data
Row 5: No Change
Row 6: No Change
Row 7: No Change
Row 8: No Change
Help, please. Thanks.
Row 1: Blank cell
Row 2: Blank cell
Row 3: Blank cell
Row 4: Text Data
Row 5: Text Data
Row 6: Blank cell
Row 7: Text Data
Row 8: Text Data
When I paste over existing data in Editor Grid mode, I get:
Row 1: Text Data
Row 2: Text Data

Row 4: Text Data
Row 5: No Change
Row 6: No Change

Row 8: No Change
Help, please. Thanks.

Re: Excel Pasting
Hi,
I need more information in order to understand the problem.
Do you want empty XML elements generated for the Excel cells which are empty?
Can you send us (support@oxygenxml.com) a small sample Excel spreadsheet, a small XML sample document (the document in which you are pasting in the Grid editing mode) and maybe tell us how the expected outcome should look like?
Regards,
Radu
