Best Practices for Managing Citations within DITA documents?

Post by daudvyd »

Prior to switching to Oxygen, I wrote documents in Microsoft Word and used an external citation manager like Mendeley, Zotero, or Endnote to gather and organize my references. I installed a MS Word plugin to be able to have convenient access to my references while writing and to insert inline citations like (Smith, 2018, p. 4) and a complete bibliography at the end of the document.

Is there an equivalent workflow when writing DITA documents in Oxygen? Do people somehow use Oxygen to organize their references? If not, is there a convenient way to cite references in Oxygen maintained with one of the citation managers I mentioned? Using Oxygen, can I access a database or file of my references? Can I define a citation style in Oxygen?

Hi,

For completeness I'm adding a link to the discussion thread you started on the Oxygen Users List:

https://www.oxygenxml.com/pipermail/oxy ... 06223.html

I'm not very familiar with using citations, with DITA there seems to be a special element call <cite>:

https://www.oxygenxml.com/dita/1.3/spec ... /cite.html

which seems to have a keyref pointing to another topic where the citation could be further described.
But as far as I know there is no plugin for Oxygen XML Editor to connect it to a citation manager.
