typing Greek in Oxygen xml editor

Hi there,

Does anyone know how to type (classical) Greek in Oxygen under Linux (Fedora Core 2, Gnome)? The ordinary keyboard-exchanger in Gnome makes no contact with Oxygen.
Is scim an option? But if so, how do I teach scim to produce Greek, and how do I get Oxygen and scim to cooperate?

Hello Jan,

I can input Greek characters in the <oXygen/> editor panel using an equivalent of the Windows Character Map application called gucharmap. If it is not installed on your machine, install it, start it from a console with a command

gucharmap

then form a sequence of Greek letters in the text field of the gucharmap application selecting the letters one by one, copy the sequence to the clipboard, switch to the <oXygen/> window and execute the Edit -> Paste action (Ctrl + V).

Hello,

There is an easier way. A keyboard layout for other language than English can be set on Linux to input characters of that language directly in the <oXygen/> editor panel. On Fedora with KDE go to KMenu -> Control Center -> Regional and Accessibility -> Keyboard Layout, select Enable Keyboard Layouts, select Greek from the list of available layouts and add it to the list of current layouts. A small icon appears in the taskbar near the clock, click on it to switch from one keyboard layout to another and then you can type characters of that language in the <oXygen/> editor panel.
