"Open With" in Projects

Within our projects, we have several files that are opened with system applications outside of Oxygen. Access, Excel, various graphic editing programs, for example. I can open these from the project by selecting "open with->system application" from the contextual menu. When I double click on one of these, an "open with" dialog opens and a list of "available editors" is shown, with the option to associate the file type with the editor selected.

It would be a nice feature, in my opinion, if I was given the option to "select a system application" from this dialog box, and then be able to associate the file type with the application that I select.

The right-click option works... but I think my suggestion would save time, and make working in projects all the more slick.

Hi Dan,

What are the file extensions of those particular files?
From what I remember, and I might be wrong, if you go to the Oxygen Preferences->"File Types" page and you add those extensions to the "Binary file patterns" list, double clicking the files in the Project view will always prefer the system application for them.
Also find/replace in files will no longer try to search inside them.

Ignore that last sentence - I thought you were referring to something we'd talked about earlier. It's early here - I don't quite have my wits yet.

The solution you pointed out in this post has worked great, but I've run into a problem opening just two file types: .xlsx, and .xlsm. I haven't run into any other file type that won't open in it's associated system app, except these. Could you try to duplicate this issue and let me know if you encounter the same behavior?

Edit: further tinkering revealed that .docx files also fail to open.

Hi,

Indeed, if you look in the Oxygen Preferences->Archive page these extensions and others are associated with Oxygen's Archive Browser. Unfortunately right now this cannot be changes, even if you delete those associations, Oxygen still considers them. I will add an internal issue to look into this.

Just to update this thread, Oxygen 21.1 was released and it should allow you to make persistent changes to the Preferences->Archive page.
