Conditional Documentation

Post by manugeorgep89 »

Hello Team,

I am using Oxygen Author tool and I wanted to know two possibilities, if available or not, in the Oxygen Author tool.

1. Can I generate/publish (in PDF or other formats) the contents of XML in different languages? To elaborate, I have few comments in English and few comments in German; I want to generate/publish the document having German comments only. Similarly I should be able to generate the document with English comments alone. Is this possible? Else is there an alternative?

2. I have few confidential information in my XML document, which should be generated/published in the PDF(or other formats) only based on some condition. Is this possible? Is there an alternative for this?

Hi,

Are you using a custom XML vocabulary?
If so, you will need to create some specialized attributes and values which you can use to mark certain XML elements as pertaining to certain categories.
Then your in-house publishing system could filter out elements from the published output based on those attribute values.

Popular XML vocabularies like DITA or Docbook have such attributes defined in the vocabulary and they have various profiling/filtering choices when publishing. For example here's how the filtering is done for DITA:

Hello Radu,

Is there any similar link to edit profiling for Docbook?

Hi,

Here we go:

https://www.oxygenxml.com/demo/DocBook_Profiling.html

With Docbook, the transformation scenarios have certain parameters which can be set to filter content.
More about Docbook profiling:
