Oxygen Ctrl+Tab uses history instead of position

Post by kg129 »

I'm sure this issue has been discussed before, but is there any way to make

Code: Select all

Ctrl+Tab
use "Position" instead of "History". In other words, it should work the way it works in a browser like Chrome.

I personally find the current behavior unintuitive because I'm used to how browsers implement this behavior.

Further, when several tabs are open, it's also hard to remember what the exact history was. Whereas going by "Position" is a very simple to remember and works quickly.

Thanks.

Hi,

Currently it's not possible to change the order used by Ctrl+Tab/Ctrl+Shift+Tab to navigate between editors/tabs. It is indeed navigating in order of history instead of position. We've had some requests to make Ctrl-Tab navigate in the visual/position order (at least optionally). I've added your vote. For future reference it is issue EXM-26166.

Alternatively, if you want to switch to another editor/tab by using the keyboard, you can press Ctrl+F6/Ctrl+Shift+F6 (Next/Previous Editor) and a list will appear. The list stays visible for as long as you keep Ctrl pressed and you can press F6/Shift+F6 to go next/previous, but also navigate the list with the arrow keys (or mouse click) while keeping Ctrl pressed. When you release the Ctrl key, the selected editor from the list will be activated.

Hi,

I added your vote for this. If all goes well Oxygen 19.1 (Autumn this year) will contain a special setting controlling this aspect in the "Global" preferences page.

Hello,

We released Oxygen XML Editor 19.1 a couple of days ago and I am pleased to inform you that the possibility to navigate in visual order is now available.
You can find more details here: https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... n%2Ceditor.
The page from our user guide the link provided above points to, also reveals another feature added in the new version of our product: a new dialog allowing the users to quickly switch to a certain editor chosen from a filtered list of opened editors.

Teo
