extra output (HTML) files

Post by rdelong »

I'm trying to figure out how I can exclude the HTML files in my XHTML/JavaHelp ouput that are not included in the TOC/bookmap.

For some reason files that are not in the bookmap/ditamaps are included in the output folder, which is then picked up by the search indexer. I'd like to have the OT exclude any files that are not in the maps.

Has anyone else experienced the same issues?

Hi Rick,

There are two DITA Open Toolkit issues regarding extra files which end up in the output folder:

https://github.com/dita-ot/dita-ot/issues/2077

and:

https://github.com/dita-ot/dita-ot/issues/1734

Usually you have indirect references to those extra included topics, either coming from reusable content topics or from other topics.
Also it is a good practice to link in your DITA Map (or in a special submap) also topics which do not appear in the publication, setting the "processing-role='resource-only'" attribute on each topicref.
If you are using profiling conditions, they should be set both in the DITA Map on the topicref and on each link to that specific topic.
If you produce output using our Webhelp transformation, referencing the topic in the DITA Map with "processing-role='resource-only'" and setting "toc='no'" on the topicref it should instruct the indexer to skip it. But other type of output formats may not take the "toc" attribute into account.
