XML Web Author vs. XML Author Component

Post by sanGeoff »

Theses things seem a little similar.
Is the XML Author Component still an option and still supported?

Thanks, Geoff

Hi Geoff,

The XML Author Component is still available. It can be used as a Java component which is either embedded in a larger custom standalone Java application or as a Java applet or as a component inside a JNLP Javawebstart application application.
The problem with using the component as a Java Applet or a Javawebstart application is that the future support for Java applets in web browsers is uncertain. For example Chrome removed by default support for Java applets.
This is the main reason we started 2 years ago working on the XML Web Author, which is 100% Javascript on the client side and works both in mobile and desktop devices.
So both solutions are available but if you want XML editing in the web browser and you start a new project, the XML Web Author would be the safest bet.

Radu
