Column Mode in Text editor
Hallo,
I would like to use Text Editor in Column Mode, like it has Notepad++, UltraEdit, etc. It means in case of using fixed width font to be able select, cut, paste, insert, delete column selected text limited to certain rows.
Would it be possible?
Thank You, Stepan

Re: Column Mode in Text editor
Hi Stepan,
Unfortunately, currently this is not possible in oXygen. We already have a feature request logged on our issue tracking tool to support "rectangular selection"/"column mode" for the Text mode in oXygen. I have added your vote for it.
We will consider implementing this in the long term.
Regards,
Ionela

Re: Column Mode in Text editor
Hello, works nice in 18 beta. Just provide a hint to new users to use <Alt> key when selecting (activating) this great new feature. Thank You very much!

Re: Column Mode in Text editor
Hello,
We are glad that you like the new rectangular selection mode.
Please describe how you would see the things regarding the hint: when should it appear, where should be placed...
If you select/activate this new feature, obviously you already pressed the <Alt> key (on Windows), so there would be no need to show a hint.
I must mention that, due to different platform default behaviors, there are different combinations of keys that activate this new selection mode, as follows:
- on Windows, <Alt> key works when selecting text using the mouse, and <Alt + Shift> when using the arrow/Home/End/PageUp/PageDown keys;
- on OS X, <Alt + Cmd> works for mouse, <Alt + Cmd + Shift> for keyboard;
- on Linux, <Alt + Ctrl> works for mouse (simple <Alt> would move the application window on screen), <Alt + Shift> for keyboard.
All these combinations will be documented in the oXygen's User Manual.
Best Regards,
Florin

Re: Column Mode in Text editor
Hello, I wrote it unclear. I did not want a GUI hint, just to say users, how to enable (activate) it in user manual, announcement... So in my case on Windows to say somewhere "use <Alt>"
E.g. in User Manual (I did not find it there). And yes, I did not know Alt+Shift for keyboard selection, so I thought only mouse selection is available - I almost wanted to ask You why only mouse... So now is all fine. Regards, Stepan

Hi,
Thanks for clarifying things.
The documentation was not complete when we made available the beta release of oXygen 18.0, but all the necessary information will be available in the User Manual on the official release.
Best Regards,
Florin
