UI issues after screen resolution change

Post by misty »

I'm on a MBP 13" with a 27" external monitor. I often need to connect and disconnect from the monitor, which changes my screen resolution substantially. Almost invariably when this happens, many of the UI elements (such as the tabs) change to having a black background (along with the black text) so text on them is invisible. In addition, clicking UI elements often does not work, and sometimes even the keyboard input becomes unresponsive. The only way to resolve the issue is to restart the Oxygen app. Any advice?

Hi,

We are aware of this issue being triggered with Java SE 6 when an external monitor (or projector) is connected. Unfortunately, the issue is triggered in a third party component (docking framework), so it has proven difficult to debug.

If you see this problem a lot, you could use the alternative distribution of oXygen for Mac OS X 10.8 (and later) that bundles Java SE 8 and it does not exhibit this glitch.
This version of oXygen XML Editor is available in the Download section from our website:
oXygen XML Editor - for OS X 10.8 and later Includes Java SE 8

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks. I haven't done that because you have an email thread going with a colleague who is experiencing crashes with the Java 8 version, so I guess I will stick with the devil I know for now.

Some additional information: I am on a 13" Macbook Pro Retina, and my external display is a 27" monitor. They get significantly different resolutions. I've noticed buggy behavior in other apps (such as Hipchat) when switching, as well. Hopefully Apple will release a fix for the driver if it is their fault.

As a theory, I have switched the UI back to the default font. I was using Calibri for some reason. I'll let you know if it helps anything.

FYI, going back to the default fonts and turning off antialiasing did not solve this problem. I'm afraid to update to the Java 8 version because of my coworker's experience with that version, so I guess I am a bit stuck.

Hi,

The problem is not related in any way to fonts, it is a known issue, so it was bound to happen even with default fonts.
You don't have to replace one distribution with the other. You can keep both distributions of Oxygen on the same machine and use them alternatively (avoid running them at the same time if they are of the same version). Simply rename the folder of one of them if you want to keep both in the same location. If the Java 8 distribution is causing trouble for you, you can immediately switch back to the legacy Java 6 one.
