Listing Topics Not Referenced in Bookmap or Map

Post by mstrubberg »

Is there a way to create a list of all topics in a project that either are referenced by the bookmap or map or are not referenced by the bookmap or map. I'm trying to identify any topics in the project folder that are not in use.

Hi,

We already use such a tool internally (for our own DITA-written user manual) to identify extra image files, extra topics which should be deleted because they are not used anymore.
We have plans to also make the tool available in Oxygen in a future version.
I will update the forum thread when this happen.

Was the tool implemented? If so, in what version?

Hi,

The tool was implemented in Oxygen 17.0 and it's called Find Unreferenced Resources in DITA Projects. It is available when you right click inside a DITA Map opened in the DITA Maps manager:

Hi, I have a similar question, but reversed.
I have some topics that are reused in various bookmaps. Is there a way I can list all of the bookmaps that any given topic is included in?

Hi,

Assuming you are using the latest Oxygen 22.0:

1) Go to the Project view, right click the root and enable master files support.
2) Add all your top level DITA Maps to the master files folder.
3) Open the topic in the main editing area, right click the title and use the "Search references" action. It should locate all references to it, across all those master maps.
4) In the results view you can select all results, right click and export them as XML for further processing or as HTML.
