Spell and grammar checker - Soultions?

Post by DKeyes »

Hey,
I´m probably not the first one to ask this question, but I still need to ask:
Is there any efficient, mostly MS-Word-like method to spell and grammar check documents?
I admit that I´m pretty spoiled when it comes to spell checking. In private I use MS Word, but in my company we switched to Oxygen to maintain our user manual. We´re getting used to it, but there is still one major issue we need to handle: Spell checking.

Basically, our documents are available in thee formats: XML, HTML and PDF. Each document has approx 50 pages. (Some documents only have 20 pages, other more than 100). No matter how often we review a document, there will always be remaining mistakes.

So, is there any efficient way (workarounds included) to spell and grammar check our documents?

By the way, I´m already using the JAVA spell checker, but it´s pretty simple. I also tried Hunspell Spell checker (Open Office spell checker), but it´s pretty useless since it won´t learn any words (Which is annoying since every second word is technical and therefore highlighted as a mistake).

Thanks for your help,

Daniel

I forgot:

It´s not necessary to edit all mistakes in Oxygen. Of course, it would be an advantage, but its not necessary.

The main requirement is a preferably intelligent plugin or software that detects and highlights spell and grammar mistakes. This might be a plugin, a dictionary or a rather high-end PDF program.

Hello,

Acrolinx provides a plugin for Oxygen v13.2 and v14.0. Acrolinx is a lot more than a grammar and spell checker, but given that you need this for technical terms, it would probably be the best solution for you.
Acrolinx 2.10 Enhances Terminology, Supports oXygen XML Editor, Expands User Authentication Options
Please contact Acrolinx regarding availability and pricing.

Are there any other tools, similar to Acrolinx, that provide plugins to oXygen? I have several clients asking for terminology/translation support for authors.

Hi Scott,

There is the free language tools plugin:

https://github.com/danielnaber/oxygen-l ... ool-plugin

Tedopress also had a spell check plugin for Oxygen, I've never tested it myself though:

XTM International also had a plugin for Oxygen providing integration with their translation memory.
