generating localized PDF; xml:lang isn't passed from map to

Post by nharrison »

I had been informed that when using the org.dita.pdf2 plugin, a setting of @xml:lang in a map (mine is set to 'zh-tw') would propagate through the topics in the map and result in the right string values being calling from the right file (in my case zh_TW.xml, which I had translated from the en.xml) from the org.dita.pdf2/cfg/common/vars folder.

However, this is not happening for me. I have the 'xml:lang="zh-tw"' setting in my map, and I know it's being read because font settings that depend on it are correct, but all the variable strings like 'Figure', 'Table', 'Note', etc. are in English. (I'm using DITA-OT 1.6.3.)

Was my information wrong? Does every topic file have to have the @xml:lang set in order for the PDF to work? If not, how do I get the value to propagate?

Thanks.

Hello,

Yes, your information was wrong. Each topic defaults to English (xml:lang="en") if no explicit language is set in the topic file. Please set the xml:lang="zh-tw" attribute in every topic file in order to have the labels translated in the PDF output.
Regards,
Sorin
