checking for updates performed even when check box unticked
Hi,
I've got Oxygen Author installed as a virtual app (version 11.2, build 2010051111) at work, and only recently it started doing this:
every time I open an xml file I get a "checking for updates" message in the bottom-right corner of the screen and nothing happens until this message goes away. It doesn't prompt me that it has found a new version when it's done (luckily) but it takes a very long time to finish so it is very annoying having to wait almost a minute for each file to open.
I should probably mention that I have already disabled the option to check for updates in the Preferences and restarted the application without any result.
Is there anything else I can do to make sure that this application stops checking for updates?
Thank you!
Iulia

Hi,
After disabling the option in Options > Preferences, Global, Automatic Version Checking and restarting the application, double check in Preferences if the option remains disabled.

Adrian

Hi,
The automatic version checking, even when enabled, only runs once every 3 sessions. It certainly does not trigger every time an an editor is opened. So this problem may be unrelated.
What is the exact message that you see in the status bar when this happens?

Adrian

Re: checking for updates performed even when check box untic
Hi Adrian,
The message I am getting is simply "Checking for updates..." and it appears in the bottom-right corner (in windows, above the windows clock, not in Oxygen). But nothing happens in Oxygen until this message goes away.
I discovered that if I open files directly from Author they open immediately.
If i try to open them from Windows explorer or from the FTP client, that's when I get the "Checking for updates..." message and the files just hang for minutes until they open.
I'm starting to think that this is a problem with the network (as I said before, I've got Author installed as a virtual app) so I will contact my IT team and see if they can sort this out.
Thank you for your help!
Iulia

Hi Iulia,
If the message is outside of Oxygen, then it's not Oxygen related.
It's most likely an antivirus or security software that is trying to update itself each time you open a file and it tries to scan it.

Adrian
