Pasting in from Word

Our project was well underway before blank Oxygen files became available, so a fair amount of material is in Word.
I'm trying to paste the existing material into the new blank file, but am having no luck. No matter what I try (keyboard shortcut, menu bar command, paste, paste special) the text does not appear in the Oxygen file.
I'm trembling at the thought of rekeying all of this.
What can I do to get the Word text into Oxygen that I've not tried?

Hello,

On what platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) are you using Oxygen?
What version and build number of Oxygen are you running (Help > About)?
Do you have any custom Oxygen plugins/add-ons or CMS integrations?
