Single source graphics location
Post by mstrubberg »
You can create reusable components out of DITA elements, but you can't create a reusable component from an image. What approach can I use to share a single graphic image in a central repository outside a CMS to reuse a .jpg and have all topics that use that .jpg point to the single file for publishing?

Hi,
There are a couple of ways in which you can do that. You can create a reusable component from the image element. In author mode, from the contextual menu, choose Reuse->Create reusable component. Select the image element as the "Content reuse" and choose the location where it should be extracted. Any time you want to create a reference to it you will have to choose from the contextual menu Reuse->Insert reusable component.
Another approach is to use Warehouse topics to store the content you want to reuse often. Once you have such a topic, to create content references in Oxygen you will use the Insert a DITA content reference action from the toolbar.
And of course you could use keys to make your references more robust.
There aspects are also covered in the following user guide topics:

Best regards,
Alex
