HELP opening XSL files almost halts windows XP!

Post by hepabolu »

Hi,

I must have done something wrong, but I really can't figure out what, but today I cannot open an XSL file in both the standalone editor as well as in the Eclipse plugin without the CPU going to 100% and everything is slowing down to a halt.
Other extensions work fine and snappy and even renaming problem.xsl to problem.xml opens the file quickly.

I've tried reinstalling Oxygen, but no luck.

Anybody any ideas?

Hi,

Do you have this problem with a specific XSL file or with any XSL file? If you have problems with a specific file please send that to support at oxygenxml.com and we will take a look. Otherwise let us know and we will give you details to activate the application logging to see if we get something from the log files.

No, it's with any XSL file (even a 2K size is not loaded).

In the meantime I've tried the following without any luck:
- reboot PC
- reinstall Oxygen
- set PC back to yesterday (although I can't verify that it worked yesterday) using system restore

I just opened an XSL file with the XMLbuddy plugin in Eclipse and that works fine.

Do let me know how to look at the logs.

Hi,

Have you installed lately some other plugin that handles XSL?
Please check also the Error Log view and see if you get something there. Please write us at support at oxygenxml.com in order to send you a log4j configuration file to enable the application logging.

Hello,

Thank you for sending the log file. All I can deduce is that the file carfilter.xsl was opened in less than 2 seconds. I don't see why it doesn't appear in <oXygen/> in an XSL editor immediately. Are you sure you don't have other applications running at the same time which take up all the CPU ? Can you send us the file carfilter.xsl or other file that has the same behavior and the file C:\Documents and Settings\hvanderlinden\com.oxygenxml\options so that we can reproduce this ?

Hi,

I looked in the log file as well and saw this too. No, there is no extra editor opened. And no, there is no other time consuming process running. I have tried it several times and every time the behavior is the same:
the system is practically idle until I open an XSL file, either in the stand-alone version or in Eclipse. From that point on CPU rises to 100% and stays there for what seems like ages. When I finally get fed up with waiting I close the process using the task manager.

I must say, after installing the logj4.properties file, the system was more responsive, i.e. it returned back to normal (but without opening the XSL file).

I have thought about installing another plugin that handles XSL and it could be possible that I've installed the XMLBuddy plugin after the installation of OxygenXML. However, after the XMLBuddy installation I have worked in Eclipse without any problems and I did open XSL files as well.

OTOH: if this is a problem it shouldn't affect the stand-alone version. I haven't installed the XMLbuddy plugin there.

I'll send the requested files by mail.

Bye, Helma

Hi,

Just to state here the result of this thread:

It seems that the problems was related with the options because after using the Options->Reset Options action the problem disapeared. Although we tetsed with the same options files we were not able to reproduce the problem.

George
