Can I compare EPUB files?

Post by John_Tait »

Oxygen Author can view EPUB files without editing them, and Diff Files is a great utility, but I can't seem to compare EPUB files. I know I can unzip them, but is there a direct way to compare different versions of the same EPUB file?

Hello,

Yes, you can compare them with the Diff Directories tool.
Note that next to each of the folder picker buttons from the Diff Directories tool there is a small arrow pointing down. When you press that a drop down list appears that allows you to "Browse for archive file". Pick EPUB files this way on both sides and the Diff Directories tool will compare the files within them.

If you want to compare entire directories that contain several EPUB files (or other archives), but you want to expand the EPUB files (archives) and see the differences between the resources within them, you can enable the option Look in archives from Options > Preferences > Diff / Directories Comparison
You will probably also want to set the option Compare files by: to Content in the same place.
