Navigation Back/Forward keys cannot be changed

Post by cnahr »

On my German keyboard, I cannot type the default key assignments for Navigation Back/Forward (Ctrl + Alt + Open/Close Bracket) that move to the previous or next message in Find in Files or similar lists. (Brackets are overloaded with AltGr on the 8/9 number keys here, not separate keys.)

So I went into Options > Menu Shortcut Keys and assigned a new key combination that was happily accepted -- but it's completely ignored by the editor. Nothing happens when I type the new combination, and right-clicking on the Find in Files panel still shows the old key bindings. This behavior persisted after a restart of Oxygen XML Editor. I tried two different new key bindings for Navigation Forward (Ctrl+Alt+Right and Ctrl+Alt+F8) with the same result.

I don't know if this is a bug or if Navigation Back/Forward is intentionally hard-coded, but please change or fix this, as it's currently a very significant usability problem. Thanks.

For the record, this is on Windows 8 with the current 64-bit version (according to update check) of Oxygen XML Editor.

Hello,

Please note that the Navigation keys (default shortcut keys: Ctrl + Alt + Open/Close Bracket) refer to the navigation between different editors.
They are used to navigate to the next or previous editor, if multiple editors are open.

What you need instead are the shortcut keys to navigate to the next or previous result (including for Find operations). These are called "Next/Previous Message" (Results category) and are by default set to Ctrl+Shift+Close Bracket and Ctrl+Shift+Open Bracket.

We have tested the behavior of those actions using the keys you've set (Ctrl+Alt+Right and Ctrl+Alt+F8) and they seem to work as they should.

Let me know if I could be of further help.

Oh dear. Yes, thank you, the correct key functions do work correctly. I had never even noticed the correct keys before, I guess I had never scrolled that far down in the key assignment list!
