Open network files

Post by paul »

Hello, I'm using Oxygen 3.1. Like the former poster, I try to open a xml-file located on the network. When I open the "Open..." box and click the "My network" I type "\\server\share" in the file dialog. It is accepted, but the directories are NOT listed. Hence, I'm not able to find the file I'm looking for. If I do the same in Windows Explorer, I can very well find my file. I'm using Windows 2000.

Did anyone respond to this poster? I'm having the same or a similar problem, using Oxygen 5.1 beta: I can't open files over the LAN.

1) In the File-Open dialog, if I type "\\mamre" and click OK, I get the error:
"Cannot open the specified file : \\mamre (The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect)" Expected result: it should show the names of shared folders on Mamre.

2) If I type "\\mamre\Apache Group" (the name of a shared folder), it shows the contents of that shared folder, which is good. If I then select a file to open and click OK, the file is opened. Fine.

3) If I go to the File-Open dialog, click on My Network Places, and click on the "Apache Group on mamre" share, then navigate down to a file, select it and press OK, nothing happens ... the Open dialog goes away but no file is shown. Oh wait ... now it's working. Hmm.

4) If I click on "My Network Places" in the sidebar, then double-click EntireNetwork, then Dallas (our domain), then Mamre, it works fine (in contrast to #1 above).

So in summary... it works fine, except for #1 above, and sometimes #3. Maybe #3 was a fluke.

Java problem

Post by Radu »

Hi guys, your problems are very easy to reproduce and you are absolutely right. Unfortunately we are using the file chooser supplied by java so we cannot control what the chooser component's behaviour should be. Maybe you should address your problems to the java bug database : http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase

Thanks, Radu. Good to know the problem is reproducible.
Any chance that you could report this in the Java bug db? I went there, but unlike you guys, I have not worked with the Java classes involved, and have some difficultly figuring out whether the problem is already reported, or what category to put it in.
Seems to me that's the way it should work anyway... I'm a customer of Oxygen, Oxygen is a "customer" of Java.

Re-opening Network files

Post by jsavidge »

Greetings,

I’m also using the latest version of Oxygen on Windows XP, and have what may be a related problem.

When I couldn’t use the File-Open dialog as was described here, I used a Windows explorer window to navigate to the network directory in question.

I then “dragged and dropped” the files into the editor pane of Oxygen. I Added some folders to my project, (stored on a local drive) and used the toolbar icon to add the “dragged and dropped” network based files to the various folders in the project.

I closed some, but not all, of the files in the editor pane. I saved the project and exited the application.

When I restarted the app, the files that had not been closed before the shut down, came back up in the editor pane and were listed in the Project pane. Strangely they were listed in the Project pane, but were not in any of the folders where they had originally been put. They were listed in the project outside the folders.

I tried adding all the files again, and saved the project again. This time I closed all the files in the editor pane before exiting the application.

When I restated Oxygen, none of the files were listed in the project or the project’s folder.

If all the files are on a local disk and I follow the same procedure that I first described, every thing works as expected.

It appears that the project somehow cannot keep track of network based files.

If you need any additional info from me, then please let me know.
