Stand Alone vs. eclipse?

Post by cdavisafc »

I'm relatively new to oXygen and am playing with both the stand-alone and the eclipse versions. A couple of questions:

* How do the feature sets compare? So far (it's early yet) I've found all of the stand-alone features in the eclipse version?
* Is one of these products preferred? In other words, is one of them clearly the future of oXygen XML Editor? Does one version receive more frequent updates? Is either one going to be end of lifed any time soon?

Thanks,
Cornelia

Hello,

You can compare the feature sets between the two in the feature matrix from our web site:
http://www.oxygenxml.com/feature_matrix.html
*grey bubble means it's only available in the stand-alone edition

As a rule, the stand-alone edition has a few more features than the Eclipse edition, but usually this is only because Eclipse already has some of these features available by some other means(built-in or another plugin).

Currently both editions are maintained at about the same level. The stand-alone edition receives a bit more attention from our part but this is only because we have a full GUI to maintain and proportionally more problems to resolve because of that(which isn't the case for Eclipse that has its own GUI).

Both editions are updated at the same time because there's a lot of shared code between the two editions.

No end of life is planned for either edition. Additionally, I can affirm that we plan to also support Eclipse 4(when it's finalized) in future versions of Oxygen(probably v13).
