default new DITA topics to a text editor page
Post by chiefmechanic »
hi - i prefer to start new DITA topics in text mode, however, i'm not sure how to do this currently.
there doesn't appear to be any way to add DITA to the choice of editors in the "Editor/Pages" preference panel... is there some other way to create this default behavior?
thanks

Re: default new DITA topics to a text editor page
Hello,
The document type of your XML document(DITA) is recognized by Oxygen and its initial page is used.
If you want to change the default mode only for the DITA document type you can do this in Options -> Preferences -> Document Type Association. Select the 'DITA' document type and press Edit.
At the bottom of the Document type dialog you will find the option Initial page which by default is set to Author. You can change it to Text and from that point on all DITA documents(topic, concept, etc) will be opened by default in Text mode. Note that this does not cover DITA maps, their document type is 'DITA Map'.
If you want to completely override the initial page for all XML documents you can do so in Options -> Preferences -> Editor -> Pages. Clear the checkbox Allow Document Type specific page setting.... Now the initial page will only be editor dependent and in the table below you can choose the default page for each editor. For XML Editor the default is already Text.
Regards,
Adrian
