docx (Word 2007/2010) xlst to XSL-FO

Post by trosenow »

Hello: I am searching to find an XLST to create XSL-FO from MS Word docx versions 2007/2010. I see the old stuff on the internet regarding Word2FO.xsl, but it is for Word 2003.

If anyone has an XLST they can share I would appreciate it. I realize this is not a small task to create nor do I take this request lightly. I am at the point of needing to put my head down and create it myself, but thought I would take one last chance with this forum that one may already exist.

ultimate goal or task I am needing to resolve is: on a windows IIS server, MailMerge docx => transform to XSL-FO => transform to PDF. I am looking for a pure XLST concept without installing MS office/sharepoint 2010 or other 3rd party applictions on a server to create the XSL-FO and realize I need a FOP engine as well to create the PDF, but have this worked out.

Again thank you for any feed-back.

Hello,

While you can probably find some chain of tools that could automatically do this for you I wouldn't recommend it in an automated environment. Someone has to analyze the resulting document and decide if it's consistent with the source.

The main problem I see is the Word to FO conversion. While this may yield good results with simple text documents, it's going to look bad with tables and graphics. By the time you get to a PDF it's going to be pretty messy(assuming you even get the tables or graphics to this point).

If the PDF result is what's important then I'd suggest you skip the XSL-FO step and look for a Word2PDF converter or a solution to print a Word document to PDF. These will get the most accurate results when converting from Word to PDF.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
