Track changes functionality in text view

Is there existing functionality so that the track changes feature that is in the Author view can also be used while in the Text view. When Track Changes is enables and a user makes a change while in the Author view, Oxygen inserts the <?oxy_insert_start?> and <?oxy_insert_end?> tags around the change. We would very much like to see this behavior replicated while working in the Text view, if it's not already in the product.

Hi Jason,

Change tracking is only available in the Author page.
We do not plan to support change tracking in the Text page as this is the page where the user has full control over the edited XML.

Thank you for your quick response, Radu. Our group was disappointed that the Track Changes functionality in the author view will not be considered for the Text view. Most of the people in our group prefer to author in the Text view and not the Author view, since writing in the Text view is generally faster and makes for easier troubleshooting of the XML.

We have a need to track changes in almost file we edit and author. By not including the track changes functionality in the text view, we will effectively be limited to using the Author view only.

My group asked me to respond to you to see if you could reconsider adding the Track Changes functionality to the text view. Would it be acceptable to you if the Track Changes functionality had to be toggled on in the Oxygen Preferences?

Hi Jason,

We discussed your request and the decision was that change tracking will only be available in the Author page.
What you can do in order to make the Author page look more like the text page is to show the tags also in the Author page.
In the Author page there is a toolbar drop-down button in which you can choose to display Full Tags with Attributes.

Thanks again for your consideration, Radu. We use the Full Tags with Attributes option in the Author view regularly, but generally prefer to work in the Text view as it is faster and easier to use for troubleshooting validation issues. Our group will not be willing to do all of their writing work in the Author view, so we'll look for alternative means of overcoming this issue.
