oXygen install overwrites HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT settings?

Post by steamer25 »

I haven't confirmed this--but I suspect that when I install oXygen (including minor revisions), the Windows registry setting I have under

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xsl\PersistentHandler

gets nuked.

It is important that this value be left intact for Windows' file search to work correctly. I.e., without it, if I search a whole directory of .xsl files for anything containing 'template' I get zero .xsl files.

The same goes for .xml, .xslt, .xsd, etc. Anyway, it occasionally disappears for some reason and I suspect it's oXygen.

I've also had trouble searching for *.x* files in Windows XP.

I can't say whether I had trouble before or after installing Oxygen, but other users have reported problems who may not necessarily be Oxygen users.

I downloaded and ran "searchallfiles.reg", available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/tweaks_ ... _kelly.htm

Do an internet search for the file, or for a generic question about Windows not searching all files (which is what I did initially).

After installing (which changes the Registry), I could successfully use Windows search to look for stuff in *.x* files.

I've only had to do this once (per PC); it seems to remain in effect after updates to Oxygen (even from 9.x to 10.x). I have not noticed unwanted side-effects.

"Your mileage may vary."

Hello,

The Oxygen uninstaller should remove only the Windows registry values added by the installer but it seems it removes more values which breaks the Windows search. I just reproduced the problem after running an Oxygen uninstaller. We will contact the technical support of the installer application and we will ask them about the problem.

Thank you mlcook for the workaround.

Sorin
