In authoring mode, say you have a DITA document that has text

foo baz qux

Then you add "bar" (underlined) and delete "qux" (bold)

foo bar baz qux

If you highlight "ar baz qu" and try to type over or press backspace, nothing happens.

Thanks for the feedback.

We considered deleted content as read-only if not entirely in the selection and that is why the selection cannot be deleted in your example.
What you can do is select like "ar baz " and the delete content should be extended.

But we understand your usecase and will try to make an improvement for this situation.
I'm not entirely sure the improvement will be in the final Oxygen 10.2.
