location of folders in Mac OS X (and probably on others?)

Post by georgb »

hi,

can't see any dictionaries or plugins after what I thought
is a more standard Mac OS X installation procedure (Oxygen 3.1):

The Application can be draggged to the /Applications folder,
as expected. This works, and is highly desirable!

However, the dicts, and plugins folders are expected in the same place,
therefore I would have to place all these auxiliary directories
in the same directory as oxygen.app beside *all*other*applications*.

I have tried to find a way how to set the directory search path or
similar. In the About box
there is an (undocumented, helpwise?) tab displaying
property settings. One of them is

com.oxygenxml.editor.plugins.dir = /Applications/plugins

As you can see, the global place in /Applications is somewhat
unfortunate, because it is unclear to which app(s) this
plugins directory belongs.

Any suggestions? (I know I can just unpack Oxygen somewhere.
But installing applications just somewhere creates an installation
mess and I don't want to have to keep in mind which application
must be installed in which special way in which special places
when there is a standard procedure for the operating system in
question. Am I missing something?)

thanks, georg

Hello,

The users are expected to be able to install extra-plugins and dictionaries as easy as possible. For this we have choosed to place the plugins and dicts directories at the same level as the application bundle, and not to place them in the application bundle itself.

The solution to avoid the mix of application folders is to place the oxygen.app and the other folders into an oxygen directory into the Applications. In my case, I use:
/Applications/oxygen3.1/oxygen.app

Kind regards,
Dan

O.K., that is plausible.
