Diffing directories only compares file modification times?

I've got two directories full of XML that I want to run a diff on. So I fired up DiffDirs and it seems that it only compares by file modification times. I even went into the preferences and changed the "Compare files by" setting to use "Content". It seems that the preferences aren't being used, as that had no effect.

I'm using oXygen on Mac OS X 10.5. Using diffDirs 9.2, build 2008060317.

The Compare files by / Content preference is applied correctly. I just checked that. In the case of Diff Directories the diff stops at the first different character. The preferences for Diff Files like Ignore Whitespace, Ignore modifications in comments, etc are ignored. So if there are differences between two files reported by Diff Directories then they are different at least by one character. The timestamp is not taken into account when Compare files by / Content is selected.
