Need help with translations when not using translation company
Hi,
I'm not sure if you can help me. I have a ditamap with multiple files containing links, images, and videos that I need to have translated into LATAM Spanish. My company does not want to use a translator. The team that is requesting the translation has offered to do the actual translation but they do not have Oxygen XML Editor nor do they have any experience working in XML or DITA. These are people that are not "writers" and are only familiar with Word. Is there a way for me to export the files to some format, have them do the translation, and then import them back into DITA?
I did see there is a Translation Help Add-On and I did a little test. But, I wasn't quite sure if this over-wrote the English file or created another copy. I got nervous and renamed the file before I saved it.
Janice

Re: Need help with translations when not using translation company
Hi Janice,
The Translator Helper Add-on is helpful if inside an Oxygen installation you want to use automatic translation with Google Translator or DeepL. But somebody would still need to have an Oxygen installation for it to work.
There is a webinar in which its functionality is covered: https://www.oxygenxml.com/events/2021/w ... iting.html
We also have an add-on which can be used to build a translation zip package containing the DITA content:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... addon.html
but again the persons doing the translation would need to edit the DITA XML content directly.
Coming back to your use case there is the possibility to publish DITA XML content to Microsoft Word using Oxygen:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... ord-2.html
There is also a possibility to convert MS Word documents to DITA content using our Batch Converter add-on:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... addon.html
but I do not guarantee you will get the same DITA structure after doing this as all conversions may lose specific information from the original format.
Maybe another way to handle this would be to have the translators use our Oxygen Content Fusion platform to edit DITA XML content directly in a web browser. There should be a video about using Content Fusion to upload DITA XML content from an Oxygen installation and then edit that content directly in a web browser here:
https://www.oxygenxml.com/content_fusion.html
Regards,
Radu

One more thing I remembered there is a commercial Word plugin which can be used to edit DITA XML content but I have not used it myself:
