German tag names in English user interface
Hi,
I'm using Oxygen 20.1 on a German operating system, but the user interface language is set to English. However, when I create DITA documents, the tag names are displayed in German in the Author mode. For example, the "shortdesc" element is labelled "Kurzbeschreibung". I believe that this wasn't the case in earlier Oxygen versions. Is there a way to avoid these German labels?
Thank you for your help
Susanne

Re: German tag names in English user interface
Hi Susanne,
Is it possible that in the DITA topic XML content you have the xml:lang attribute set on the root element to "de-DE"?

Radu

Re: German tag names in English user interface
Hi Radu,
Yes, setting the locale is required for spell-checking and we always did that in our files. However, in oXygen 17.1 which is still installed on my machine, the tag names were still untranslated/English even though "de-DE" was set. Now it is a mixture of translated and untranslated tags, and some of the German tag translations are fairly strange. For example, "result" is translated as "Befund" (which typically denotes the result of a medical examination).
Kind regards
Susanne

Re: German tag names in English user interface
Hi Susanne,
Indeed in recent Oxygen versions we added this extra CSS stylesheet which shows static texts translated to the xml:lang used in the topic:
OXYGEN_INSTALL_DIR\frameworks\dita\css\core\-i18n-de.css
For example if you remove all its contents the selectors will no longer be applied.
Of course we would also be grateful if you would review our German translations. For example what should we use instead of "Befund"? Are there other translations in that CSS file wrong or inappropriate?
Regards,
Radu
