Hunspell Checking Dictionaries
Post by frauborinski »
Good Morning,
when I choose Hunspell in the Spell-Check-Preferences in Oxygen-Options, I am offered two German default Languages: Deutsch (Deutschland) and Deutsch (generic).
What is the difference?
Kind regards

Re: Hunspell Checking Dictionaries
Hi,
The (generic) dictionary combines multiple available dictionaries for that language.
e.g. For English there are two dictionaries available English (United States) - en_US and English (United Kingdom) - en_GB. The English (generic) combines the two.
With the dictionaries that Oxygen provides out-of-the-box there is no difference between Deutsch (Deutschland) - de_DE and Deutsch (generic), because there is only one dictionary available for the German language. However, if you would add one or more custom dictionaries for German, they would all be combined as Deutsch (generic).
Regards,
Adrian

Dear Adrian,
thank you very much for your answer. Now I have some more questions:
On the Website: http://oxygenxml.com/spell_checking.html I can download 3 german dictionaries. Could I combine them, when I choose generic?
If I have a own Word-Dictionary, is it possible to use ist with Oxygen?
Kind regards,
Ulrike

Re: Hunspell Checking Dictionaries
Hi,
Yes. If you deploy multiple dictionaries for a language, the "(generic)" dictionary combines them for that language.
I've checked with those 3 German dictionaries and it works as expected. Oxygen lists 5 German dictionaries (1 built-in, 1 generic and the 3 additional) and the generic dictionary covers all 4 German dictionaries (1 built-in and the 3 additional)
Note that in recent versions of Oxygen you can place the additional dictionaries in any folder and then configure Oxygen to look in that folder for them: Options > Preferences, Editor > Spell Check > Dictionaries, 'Include dictionaries and term list from'.
You'll have to restart Oxygen after setting this.
You can only use Hunspell dictionaries in Oxygen. Dictionaries of this type are usually available for OpenOffice (free office suite similar to MS Office).

Adrian
